In order to make up for the change in schedule caused by inclement weather, Monday, Nov. 7, will now be a half day for students. We apologize for the inconvenience to families; however, this adjustment provides teachers the time required to finalize grades. As a reminder, half days of school do not impact the overall school calendar.

For Dia de los Muertos, GES had our own school Ofrenda! The Ofrenda is often the most recognized symbol of Día de los Muertos. This temporary altar is a way for families to honor their loved ones and provide them what they need on their journey. They place down pictures of the deceased, along with items that belonged to them and objects that serve as a reminder of their lives. Papel picado, or traditional paper banners, represent the wind. Earth is represented by food, especially bread. Candles are often left to represent the cardinal directions, so the spirits can find their way. This was a way to incorporate the beliefs of so many of our students, families, and staff here at GES! Thank you to all who participated!

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a lively celebration in which families honor deceased family members. This colorful holiday is mostly celebrated in Mexico and parts of the United States on November 1st and 2nd 🌎. Families create altares, or altars, with pictures of family members who have passed and ofrendas (offerings) of their favorite things 🏠🍇🍫. Día de los muertos is a joyful time that helps people remember the deceased and celebrate their memory. "Coco" and "The Book of Life" are great family movies that are all about this special holiday! 💐💀💐 If you would like to learn more about Día de los Muertos: https://kids.nationalgeographic.com/celebrations/article/day-of-the-dead
